Carbon Positive

Return to About UsThe Wider Picture

The internet is many things; a spider of social networks, an information superhighway and, some say, limitless. But the reality is the internet is a mixture of computers, connection hubs and a myriad of other devices. At the end of each link is you, utilising this vast resource from your fingertips with just a mouse and keyboard.

Going Beyond Neutrality

Carbon Positive is the process of figuring out how much carbon is produced by any activity then offsetting it through other projects like carbon sequestration (tree planting), or carbon reductions through energy efficiency. We know that just by having our website, we have a server sitting somewhere using up electricity and producing waste heat. We also know this website is trying to do some good, so we're okay with that. What is great news is we are being hosted by Ilisys who are the first web hosting company to go completely carbon neutral. They are on 100% Green Energy and offset their carbon from their other activities. We also calculate the carbon produced by our products and their logistics. So when a set of bamboo socks takes your fancy, we make sure that all it's associated carbon, including whats released from the tailpipe of your postie's 125cc, is calculated and offset.

Taking you into account

Being a socially responsible website is more that providing you with the tools and products to make a difference – we may talk the talk but we walk the walk too! So every month we'll have a look at our server logs and check how much people used the resources of aToMik Green. We'll be taking responsibility whilst you're with us by offsetting the carbon produced by you whilst you shop, learn or participate.

So feel secure in the knowledge that whilst you're learning how to reduce your own carbon footprint, we're ensuring that your time here isn't adding to the problem!
